“You take it away and you show them what they had.”

For those big fans of Inception, you can see where Christopher Nolan got his start. Following is Nolan’s breakthrough picture. One made with an extremely tight budget of $6,000 over the course of a year. Invoking the aesthetic of low budget 1940’s and 1950’s film noir Following tells the story of a writer named Bill. Bill needs inspiration for his new piece of writing so he takes to following people around London. This quickly becomes an obsession as he follows more and more people. Of course he establishes rules for himself like never follow the same person for too long or never follow a woman into an alley after dark. Nevertheless he breaks his most important rule 10 minutes into the movie. Never follow the same person more than once. (more…)

Trailer Review:
[Reviewed by: Sydney Freeman]

This movie trailer is great. The film follows Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) who is buried alive. He only has his cell phone and a zippo lighter on him. So essentially the entire 90 minutes of the movie take place in the coffin. One would think that this would be difficult to show in a one minute trailer but it manages to do so and be satisfying at the same time. Although I’m a huge fan of minimalist films, I was initially skeptical on this film but this trailer has changed my mind. The acting and the music help build tension (something I’m sure the film will excel at) and it gives a small glimpse of what the film will offer. I’m also digging the Hitchcock styled art that’s used for the transitions which cleverly disguises the lack of different scenery in the movie, which may or may not be a bad thing for certain people. I’m really excited to see a movie like this being made amidst all the 3D remakes and sequels that we’re being bombarded with.

Introducing new contributor Sydney Freeman, with his review of the new Edgar Wright comedy that everyone is talking about!

Edgar Wright returns with a stylish movie adaption of the cult comic Scott Pilgrim series. The story revolves around our hero Scott Pilgrim (Micheal Cera) who meets the girl of his dreams Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but in order to date her he has to defeat her seven evil exes. The result can only be summarized by one word, epic. Scott Pilgrim is the story for our generation. A story that could only make sense to the MTV powered, iPod connected Nintendo generation. (more…)
