Aziz Ansari and Danny McBride are two of the most famous faces in comedy right now even if you can’t quite put names to the faces.  The two are currently working on Ruben Fleischer‘s new film 30 Minutes or Less which should end up involving a pizza or two.  While speaking with MTV on the set of the film, Danny McBride mentioned a project that he and Aziz were working on with writer Harris Wittels of The Sarah Silverman Show and Parks & Recreations fame.  The film is tentatively titled Olympic Size Asshole which is one of the best titles for a movie that I’ve heard in quite a while.  We don’t have much to report yet but what they’ve revealed of the plot is still enough to get us interested. “It’s about this Olympic athlete who comes back to his hometown and he bangs mine and Aziz’s girlfriends. So we go on this mission to destroy his Olympic life,” said Danny McBride. With Aziz and writer Matt Hubard behind the idea and Jody Hill/David Gordon Green/Danny McBride’s Rough House Pictures producing, I can definitely see this film bringing on the hilarity.

The Toronto International Film Festival will run from Sept 9-19th. The festival will be showcasing over 50 new films. Until it begins, we’ll be doing some previews of the most exciting ones. Based on the outstanding Japanese Novel by the same name, it follows a young man named Watanabe and his relationship with two girls. One is very much like him, but they share a history which has a lot of sadness. The other embodies everything he is not, and they share no history at all. It is definitely not just a love story, however. The novel was of course named after the Beatles song, which is also part of the story. In addition, the song is played in the background of the teaser trailer, which I have embedded after our look! (more…)

"Make the Connection."

Strangely enough, I discovered this documentary while reading an interview on obssesedwithfilm.com regarding the movie “Inception”. In the interview, Ellen Page brings up this documentary describing it as “one of the most important and disturbing films she had ever seen”. Well such wild claims must be investigated of course. I went to the film’s website and discovered they have put up the entire film for free: LINK. I figured I’d turn it on and see if it was any good, and I never stopped. Another superhero movie? [/sigh] Well at least it has one thing going for it. Director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Science of Sleep) is at the helm. That could at least make things interesting. However, his last effort “Be Kind Rewind” wasn’t exactly entertaining (or even good). (more…)
